CoffeeShop 36
Summer EP
CoffeeShop 362025
CoffeeShop 36 was a band my son and a couple of his friends put together. It started with Rowan, Willie and Kieren writing songs, they asked me if I would record the songs for them which I agreed to and also added bass and drums. After recording some of their songs, they decided to form a working band and asked me to play bass for them. Iain Muir, another friend joined on drums.
One of our friends sent one of the songs, Presence, to the Radio Forth song competition, to our amazement, it was one of 5 songs to be selected for a final shootout at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh, at this point we hadn’t even played a gig, so we hastily rehearsed and managed to get a gig prior to the competition. A few of the members had not played live before so it was an uphill task. We didn’t win, but it got us a lot of publicity which we followed up by entering another song, Protect, into the Radio XFM weekly song competition, where listeners are asked to submit their votes. We came 1st in that and were offered gigs at the Liquid Rooms by a promoter.
The band continued for a few years, writing many original songs and playing gigs around Scotland. Eventually, as with a lot of bands, friction between members caused the band to split up. Which was a shame as by then they had written some great material.
The Summer EP was the first 3 songs we recorded, I have done a remix of these which you can listen to here. It is my intention to continue to remix the songs as I believe they deserve to be heard. Hope you enjoy them.
