I wrote this tune after a visit to a monastery in Meteora in the Greek mountains, see picture. The monastery sits on top of an isolating mountain and monks used ropes to pull up their supplies in baskets.
While in the main body of the monastery I watched as a woman devotedly said a prayer and then lit a candle for her faith. I’m not a christian but this simple act of faith moved me and I realised that it didn’t matter whether I believed or not, as this lady did, I could see how much it meant to her and it sent a shiver up my spine.
